Sania's much debated decision to marry Shoaib

Author- Manoj Kumar
Very recently we got the news of Sania getting married to Shoaib Malik, the Pakistani cricketer that was shared to me by my friend Anindo at the evening of the day it was coming as flash news on the news channels. I shared the news to some of my colleagues who happen to live in the upper floor of my flat in the apartment. But probably they did not believe it till they did not watch the news from their eyes. Really it was difficult to believe for people like us more so who are her fans. It was not so late when she declared her engagement void with her childhood friend and fiancé. Just with in two months after they broke we got the news of her engagement with the controversial child Shoaib Malik and probably she is getting married with him in the month of May itself. Shoaib Malik as we all know was also engaged with another girl from Hyderabad of India but dumped her later. He has also admitted in the past that he was engaged with her but denied about the marriage with that very girl. How girls like Sania who are celebrities… fall prey to such people, I fail to understand.

She could have got any number of good matches for her. Yes I can also understand her problems as a celebrity and a sports person who happen to live most of her time in and out of her country intermittently mostly on the tours. If she is going to marry to a sportsperson from Pakistan who is serving a one-year ban for his indiscipline by the Pakistani Cricket Board, would it really guarantee that she would get a freedom of the way she wants her life to lead. In fact most of such cross – border marriages have failed and that is a big truth for example the marriage of Rina Roy, she was also married to a Pakistani Cricketer. That marriage was a big failure. She showed the courage to come back to India. Indian actresses have remained a hunting ground for the Pakistani cricketers in the past. But the lone woman tennis player who got so much of love from the people of India who made her an icon parallel to Sachin Tendulkar and Amitabh Bachchan betrayed her fans. She may call it her personal affair but the reality is that she has not shown faith to her nationality even in the past when she rejected to play for the nation and inside India. Again she is doing the same kind of thing.

Some of the people, those close to her are arguing that Shoaib is having a Hyderabad connection and he is among the second or third generation people who shifted from Hyderabad after its merger with India in 1948 and now living mostly in the parts of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. That may be true but now they are Pakistanis. It is not even in the interest of Sania to marry to a Pakistani simply because our relations are not good and right now really very cold. She may have to face the reality later on. Its good to say that after marriage they would live in Dubai, but in reality their roots are in India and Pakistan and so they can’t forget their countries.

Well it was my thought I shared with you… but if it is love… we all know love knows no boundaries… as love birds they defied the boundaries. God bless them! I wish Shoaib to be loyal to our Sania this time. In last two years she has dropped from her pick of the career ranking of 37 in the WTA list to now 93. Her controversies are probably more responsible for all this than the injuries. She was not able to concentrate on her game… I hope after she gets what she wanted, may be in the form of her life partner, she could improve her game… Let’s hope for the best Sania’s fans!

  1. I personally think these kind of international relation from our common people, where our national leaders failed to provide much waited peace for both the countries, will be a mile stone. I am more positive if there can be such international plateform for marriages can be made and we as an individuals can put our steps forward to world unity...

  2. First of all, I'll appreciate your thoughts but I would like to point out 1 thing. On one hand in your previous topic: 'Honor killing' you mentioned about humanity as the sole religion but now you are dividing the same yourself. Just because Shoiab is a Pakistani does not mean that Sania should not marry him. Apart from this, I would also pin point that marriages have also been miserably failed within India as well, so there is no point saying that international affairs especially Pakistani & Indians are sure shot to fail. Lastly, celebrities are always into some controversies, so it can also be the that Shoiab would have become prey of an Indian girl.
